Eligibility
K-12 teachers and community college instructors in scientific disciplines interested in increasing their knowledge of scientific research and bringing to their classrooms advanced information about optics, electronics, physics, materials science, or engineering.
Dates & Duration
ROCKET is a 6-week summer program, but specific dates vary by institution. The participating institutions are:
- California Institute of Technology, Pasadena (June 29 - August 7)
- University of Arizona, Tucson (June 15 - July 24)
- University of California, San Diego (June 29 - August 7)
The application deadline for the UCSD/ROCKET program has been extended to April 30, 2009. UCSD acceptance letters will be mailed on May 8, 2009.
Stipend
Participants accepted into the ROCKET program will receive a stipend of $5,400 for their participation. In addition, funds will be available to support travel as well as on-campus housing on an as needed basis.
Supply Budget
Participants accepted into the ROCKET program will receive a budget of $1,500 to execute the lesson plans they developed during the RET program. In addition, laboratory resources from the University, visiting lecturers, and on-going collaborations are available to support teaching sophisticated technology concepts to K-12 and community college students.
